TCT’s Primetime Players Announce Auditions for ‘The Star Spangled Girl’

Theatre Charleston Troupe’s Primetime Players are holding auditions for their upcoming production of “The Star Spangled Girl” by Neil Simon. The event will feature a staged reading in the style of a radio play, specifically for senior actors age 40 and older, according to the troupe.

Auditions are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, and 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19. They will take place at TCT-Off Broadway, located at 213 East Franklin Street behind the arena, the troupe said.

The play is a 1966 comedy centered on a love triangle involving two liberal magazine publishers and a Southern former Olympic swimmer who moves next door. The plot explores the characters’ romantic entanglements and the struggles of maintaining their political magazine, Fallout.

Characters include Andy, a liberal publisher; Norman, his partner obsessed with Sophie; and Sophie Rauschmeyer, the former Olympic swimmer and new neighbor.
