TCT’s Primetime Players to Hold Auditions for ‘The Star Spangled Girl’

The TCT Primetime Players announced auditions for their upcoming production of Neil Simon’s comedy, ‘The Star Spangled Girl.’ The show will be performed as a staged reading in the format of a radio play.

Auditions are open to senior actors, with no opportunities for younger performers under 40. They will be held on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 19, at 6:30 p.m. The auditions will take place at TCT-Off Broadway, located at 213 East Franklin St., behind the arena.

The play, written in 1966, centers on a love triangle involving two liberal magazine publishers and a Southern former Olympic swimmer who moves in next door. The plot explores the men’s efforts to keep their magazine afloat, Norman’s unrequited love for Sophie, and the complications that arise when Sophie falls for Andy, threatening friendships and their publication.

Characters in the play include Andy, a liberal publisher of the magazine Fallout; Norman, Andy’s partner who is obsessed with Sophie; and Sophie Rauschmeyer, a former Olympic swimmer and Southern girl who moves into the neighborhood.
