Tupelo crews repair hole in roadway near West Jefferson Street

Tupelo Public Works crews responded Thursday morning to a report of a hole in the roadway in front of 552 West Jefferson Street.

After inspecting the site, crews determined the failure was caused by a broken drainage structure beneath the street, according to city officials.

The west-bound lane of West Jefferson between North Church Street and Madison Street has been closed. A detour route to Main Street is in place. East-bound traffic remains unaffected until repair work begins, which could start as early as Monday, Feb. 23.

City officials advised drivers to use caution when traveling through the area during the repair process.
