Tupelo Enforces Juvenile Curfew, Urges Parent Awareness
The city of Tupelo has implemented a juvenile curfew ordinance aimed at ensuring public safety. The ordinance prohibits minors under 18 from being in public places during designated hours unless they meet specific exceptions, according to city officials.
Curfew hours are from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. During these times, juveniles cannot be in public unless they are with a parent or authorized adult, traveling to or from work with proper documentation, returning from a school activity, or in case of an emergency, among other legal exceptions.
Additionally, children of compulsory school age are restricted from being out in public between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. during the school term unless an exception applies. The city emphasizes parental responsibility, noting that parents can be cited if they knowingly allow their children to violate curfew laws.
The city’s goal is to promote safety through community cooperation. Officials encourage parents to stay aware of their children’s whereabouts and ensure they are home during curfew hours, as outlined in the city’s ordinance (Sec. 19-51 through 19-56).
