Tupelo Man Charged with Sexual Battery and Rape

TUPELO – A Tupelo man is facing serious charges after police responded to a domestic disturbance earlier this month.

On September 3, 2025, officers were called to the Landmark Boulevard area regarding a prior domestic incident. The victim reported being assaulted by a person they were in a relationship with. Officers later arrested the suspect on misdemeanor charges and booked him into the Lee County Jail.

Following further investigation, authorities charged 46-year-old Christopher L. Shumpert of Tupelo with one count of Sexual Battery and one count of Rape on September 4.

That same day, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Evans ordered Shumpert be held without bond. The case will now be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury.
