The city of Tupelo has opened its small storm shelters amid ongoing preparations to open its larger shelters, according to city officials.
Small shelters are available at the Rockwell Center (Joyner), Gumtree Park (Front Street), Veterans Park, Ballard Park, and Haven Acres. Additionally, three small shelters are located behind Tupelo Fire Department Station 3.
The city’s large storm shelters are at Theron Nichols Park and Lee Acres. Tupelo Public School District shelters at Tupelo High School, Carver, Joyner, and Thomas Street are also expected to open soon, officials said.
Residents are advised to monitor weather updates, have a severe weather plan, and stay safe during storms.
