Longtime Tupelo barbecue restaurant to close after 32 years

After more than 32 years of operation, Bar-B-Q by Jim, LLC will close its doors at the end of this week, according to a statement from the business.

The restaurant’s owner, Jim, has been a prominent figure in Downtown Tupelo, not only for his barbecue but also for his community involvement. Since opening in 1993, Jim has supported various local events and organizations, including the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association and the Tupelo Elvis Festival, where he served as a Blue Team member.

Jim has also volunteered for numerous community events, such as the Tupelo Chili Fest, Reed’s Tupelo Christmas Parade, and the Down on Main concert series. His contributions have helped strengthen the city’s community fabric, according to local sources.

As Jim and his wife, Barbara, retire, residents and community leaders are honoring their legacy of dedication, friendship, and service. The closing marks the end of an era for Downtown Tupelo, which has benefited from Jim’s leadership and generosity over the years.

Officials and community members expressed gratitude for Jim’s impact, emphasizing his role as a key supporter of downtown development and local events. The restaurant’s closing is seen as a significant change for the area’s vibrant local scene.
