Tupelo crews repair sinkhole on West Jefferson Street
Tupelo Public Works crews responded to a report of a hole in the roadway in front of 552 West Jefferson Street early Thursday morning.
After inspecting the site, crews identified a failed drainage structure beneath the street as the cause of the collapse, according to city officials.
Crews are now closing the west-bound lane of West Jefferson Street between North Church Street and Madison Street. A detour route to Main Street has been set up. East-bound traffic remains unaffected until repair work begins.
A repair project is being developed and could start as early as Monday, Feb. 23. Drivers are advised to use caution when traveling through the area.
