Tupelo honors first Black female police officer and recognizes CRNA Week

Two proclamations were read at Tuesday night’s Tupelo City Council meeting. One honored Lucille Gray “Granny” Partlow, the first Black female officer in the Tupelo Police Department. Partlow died Dec. 17 at age 85, according to city officials.

Family members and Tupelo Police Chief John Quaka joined Mayor Todd Jordan for the proclamation reading. The second proclamation recognized Jan. 18-24 as Certified Nurse Anesthetists’ Week. Rob Rodgers read the declaration on behalf of the city’s Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.

The proclamations highlight the city’s acknowledgment of its trailblazing officer and the vital role of CRNAs in healthcare, officials said.
