Tupelo man charged with felony fleeing after traffic stop attempt

Tupelo police attempted to stop a black Toyota Camry on Nov. 7, 2025, near Ida B. Wells Street and Enoch Avenue for an equipment violation, according to authorities.

Police said the vehicle drove erratically, ran stop signs and fled from officers. The car eventually crashed into another vehicle, and the occupants fled on foot.

Authorities identified the driver during the investigation. On April 2, 2026, Earnest Long Jr., 25, of Tupelo, was arrested and charged with felony fleeing. A judge ordered Long held on a $15,000 bond during a court appearance on April 3, 2026, according to court records.
