Tupelo man pleads guilty to manslaughter in 2021 killings

Wells was accused of killing Norahs Coleman, Jessica Pannell, and Robben Wilson during a gathering on Maynard Drive in Tupelo on July 24, 2021, according to the Tupelo Police Department.

The suspect was eventually captured in Albany, New York. Following his guilty plea, Circuit Court Judge Kelly Mims sentenced Wells to 31 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with an additional 29 years suspended.

The plea agreement was approved by law enforcement and the victims’ families, who have expressed their grief but also their patience throughout the legal process. Three other defendants—Taquon Garth, Javion Clifton, and Shamar Carroll—previously pleaded guilty to related charges. Garth received a 60-year sentence, Clifton was sentenced to 20 years with 40 years suspended, and Carroll received 15 years with five years suspended.

The Tupelo Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, led by Detective Tyler Cook, investigated the case. Assistant District Attorney Josh Wise prosecuted the cases, with support from DA Investigator Mike Newlin and Victim’s Assistance Coordinator Sheila Kelly.

The district attorney’s office stated its commitment to supporting the victims’ families and ensuring justice in the case.
