Tupelo Residents to Vote on $34 Million School Improvement Bond

TUPELO, Miss. — Residents of the Tupelo Public School District (TPSD) will vote on Tuesday, August 19, on a proposed $34 million bond issue that would fund a range of improvement projects throughout the district.

If approved, the district will borrow the funds to complete upgrades aimed at modernizing facilities, expanding learning spaces, and enhancing student experiences. Planned projects include bathroom renovations across all campuses, classroom renovations and expansions at Carver and Lawhon elementary schools, the creation of outdoor learning and play areas, construction of a new multi-purpose building at Tupelo Middle School, renovations to science labs, and several smaller improvement initiatives.

District leaders have assured residents that the bond would be a no-tax increase measure.

To pass, the bond proposal must receive at least 60 percent voter approval. Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at all local precincts. Absentee ballots will be available until Saturday at the Tupelo City Clerk’s Office.

TPSD officials say the proposed projects will improve learning environments for students across the district while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
