Retired Tupelo firefighter Andy Mercer passes away

The Tupelo Fire Department announced the death of retired firefighter Andy Mercer, describing him as a dedicated member of the department. Mercer served the community with bravery and commitment, and his legacy remains part of the department’s history, officials said.

Funeral services will be held at W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors, located at 535 W. Jefferson Street in Tupelo. The visitation is scheduled for Sunday, March 1, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m., the department said.

The department did not specify the cause of Mercer’s death. Community members and colleagues are invited to join in honoring his life and service.
