Tupelo Issues Winter Weather Safety Advisory
The Tupelo Police Department has issued a public safety notice amid forecasted extreme winter weather. Road conditions are expected to become dangerous and impassable, prompting officials to advise residents to stay home unless there is a true emergency.
Police said they will respond only to emergency calls during the storm. Officers will not respond to non-emergency calls or minor traffic crashes. Crashes involving no injuries and minor damage, where vehicles are drivable, will not receive a response until conditions improve.
Residents are urged to report non-emergency incidents once road conditions are safe again. Authorities also advised against calling 911 or the police department to inquire about road conditions, to keep emergency resources available for life-threatening situations.
Officials emphasized the importance of planning ahead, staying home if possible, and checking on vulnerable neighbors, family members, and friends who may need assistance during the storm.
