Tupelo man charged with firearm possession by convicted felon
Authorities in Tupelo have charged Akevious A. Tucker, 30, with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, police said.
The arrest followed a traffic stop on October 7, when officers contacted Tucker on a bicycle near Ida B. Wells Street. During the encounter, officers found him in possession of a misdemeanor amount of narcotics, according to police.
Further investigation revealed Tucker was also armed with a firearm. Authorities confirmed he had a prior felony conviction, which prohibits him from possessing guns, police said.
On October 8, a judge in Tupelo Municipal Court ordered Tucker held on a $10,000 bond. A hold was also placed on him by the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The charge will be presented to the Lee County grand jury for possible indictment, police said.
