Tupelo Police Department honors officers at 2025 awards banquet

The Tupelo Police Department hosted its annual awards banquet on Thursday night, celebrating the achievements of officers and staff for 2025. The event offers an opportunity for personnel and their families to gather outside of their daily duties.

Chief John Quaka and the department’s command staff presented awards to several individuals. Recipients included Chris Scribner, who received the Bulldog Award; Verita Marshall, Civilian of the Year; and Shundreka Jones, Rookie of the Year. Other honors went to Eric Gibens, Reserve Officer of the Year; Blake Burress, Investigator of the Year; and Jay Marshall, School Resource Officer of the Year. Supervisory awards went to Daniel McKinney, Supervisor of the Year, while Chris Gilland and Ben Uhiren received Chief’s Awards. Joseph El-Bisi was named Transfer Portal Officer of the Year, and James Hood earned Officer of the Year.

Department leaders praised the honorees’ professionalism and dedication. The department also extended thanks to Lee County Sheriff Jim H. Johnson and the sheriff’s office for covering calls within the city, allowing officers to attend the event. Additionally, sponsors who supported the banquet received appreciation for their ongoing commitment to the department and community.

“Your partnership and support are greatly appreciated,” the department said in a statement. The event highlighted the department’s gratitude for the hard work and service of its personnel throughout the year.
