Tupelo police to begin enforcing ban on kratom products Sept. 12

The Tupelo Police Department announced that enforcement of the city’s ordinance banning kratom and kratom products will begin Sept. 12 at 10 a.m.

The Tupelo City Council approved the ordinance on Feb. 3, 2026. Enforcement was delayed while a legal challenge made its way through the courts. During that period, businesses were allowed to continue selling kratom products.

Chief John Quaka said the city has permitted sales during the legal process and is now giving businesses 48 hours’ notice to come into compliance. The police department’s goal is to achieve voluntary adherence to the ordinance.
