Suspect Arrested in Multi-Jurisdiction Vehicle Burglary Case in Tupelo
Authorities in Tupelo, Mississippi, announced the arrest of a suspect connected to a series of vehicle burglaries that spanned several jurisdictions. The investigation began in November after police received numerous reports of vehicle break-ins, primarily targeting late-model pickup trucks.
Most of the burglaries involved forced entry through broken windows, with stolen items including firearms, firearm accessories, and cash, according to police. On Jan. 13, law enforcement officers executed a search and arrest warrant at an apartment on McCullough Boulevard.
Camryn R. Hodges, 23, of Prairie, was taken into custody and charged with seven counts of vehicle burglary and one count of unlawful possession of an explosive device. The charge related to the possession of a military-grade smoke device found during the search. On Jan. 15, a judge ordered Hodges to be held without bond.
Police Chief John Quaka credited the investigation’s success to cooperation between the Tupelo Police Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Office, which utilized license plate reader data and surveillance footage from local businesses and residences. Authorities continue to encourage residents to voluntarily register and integrate home security cameras to aid future investigations.
The case remains open and active, with additional charges possible in surrounding jurisdictions. Prosecutors plan to present the case to the Lee County Grand Jury.
