Downtown Tupelo street closed for demolition on Monday

Commerce Street in Tupelo will be closed to through traffic between East Main Street and East Jefferson Street starting at approximately 6:30 a.m. Monday, the City of Tupelo Public Works Department announced.

The closure is scheduled to remain in effect until the demolition project is complete, weather and site conditions permitting. The street closure is necessary to ensure safety during the demolition work and to protect motorists, pedestrians, and construction personnel, officials said.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes during the closure. Drivers near the work zone should exercise caution, obey posted signs and traffic-control devices, and remain alert for construction personnel and equipment, the city added.

The city thanked the public for its patience and cooperation as the work proceeds.
