Tupelo declares Oct. 12 Piominko Day in ceremony at City Hall
Brad Deramus, director of the Chickasaw Heritage Center, joined Tupelo Mayor Todd Jordan at Tuesday night’s Tupelo City Council meeting to read a proclamation designating Oct. 12 as Piominko Day in the city.
The city will host a Piominko Day ceremony in Fairpark on Monday, in front of City Hall, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to officials.
The event honors Piominko, a significant figure in Chickasaw history, and aims to celebrate Chickasaw culture and heritage, organizers said.
