Tupelo man charged with first-degree murder in shooting case
Tupelo police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a deadly shooting on July 8. Kenneth A. Jenkins was taken into custody on unrelated charges and later charged with first-degree murder, authorities said.
Officers responded to the emergency room at North Mississippi Medical Center on South Gloster Street after a victim arrived with a gunshot wound to the foot, according to police. Investigators also responded to scenes on Bienville Street, where they found multiple houses struck by gunfire. While at that scene, officers heard gunshots south of their location.
Shortly after, police discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds on Lambard Drive. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities reported. Detectives with the Tupelo Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division responded to all three locations, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
On July 10, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen ordered Jenkins held without bond. The case will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury. Police said the investigation remains open, and additional arrests or charges may be made as it continues.
