Two charged after alleged check attempt at Tupelo bank
Two women were charged after a reported attempt to cash a check in another person’s name at Regions Bank in Tupelo, authorities said.
Officers responded Oct. 20 to the bank at 111 South Thomas Street. Employees told officers a suspect had tried to cash the check, and officers later contacted three people in a vehicle they located, according to a news release dated Oct. 26.
Patenia S. Roberts, 42, of Fulton, was charged Oct. 22 with one count of false pretense, authorities said. Meaghan J. Anderson, 34, of Tupelo, was charged the same day with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Investigators said Anderson had previously been convicted of a felony.
Officers also found that Roberts and Anderson each had two active City of Tupelo warrants, the release said. The third person in the vehicle was arrested on misdemeanor charges. All three were taken to the Lee County Jail.
Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Weir ordered Roberts and Anderson held on $5,000 bonds each, authorities said. The charges will be presented to the Lee County grand jury.
