Tupelo police say investigation into 29-year-old’s death found suicide

The Tupelo Police Department said its investigation into the death of Christopher Armstrong, 29, found no evidence of a crime. The department said the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office determined the manner of death was suicide.

Armstrong died April 7, 2026. In a statement, the department said investigators reviewed physical evidence and forensic findings and requested additional forensic testing. The captain of the department’s Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene, police said.

The department said it closed the case as a suicide based on the evidence and the medical examiner’s findings. Because investigators did not establish that a crime occurred, police said the case was not referred to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. The department said noncriminal cases are not routinely presented to prosecutors.

Police said they remain confident in the findings but would not release additional sensitive investigative details. The department also expressed sympathy to Armstrong’s family and acknowledged public concerns about the investigation.
