Tupelo woman charged with assault on officer after resisting arrest

Authorities arrested Ashley Norman, 53, of Amory, on July 23 following an incident in Tupelo. The arrest stemmed from an encounter on July 22 on Wallace Street, where officers responded to a report of a disorderly subject.

According to police, officers observed a meth pipe in plain view while speaking with Norman. When officers attempted to arrest her, she resisted and threw punches at them. Officers used a taser after Norman continued resisting and struck at them.

Norman was taken into custody on multiple misdemeanor charges. The following day, authorities announced she was charged with simple assault on a law enforcement officer, and her bond was set at $50,000 by Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Weir.

The charges are scheduled to be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury, according to police.
