Tupelo police responded to a report of an unresponsive infant at the Super 7 Inn on McCullough Boulevard on September 18, 2026, according to authorities.
The infant was taken by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center, where the child was pronounced dead, police said.
Following an investigation, Daniel Ross, 37, of Plantersville, and Charity Burdine, 33, of Tupelo, were charged with felony child abuse, police reported.
On September 18, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen ordered Ross and Burdine to be held without bond. The case remains active, and additional charges could be filed later, authorities said. The charges will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury.
